Editorial Policy & Corrections

Find a Recall is an independent consumer-information website. Our editorial goal is to make public recall records easier to find and understand without changing the meaning of official notices.

1. Source standards

Recall records are collected from available official FDA, USDA FSIS, and CPSC sources. We preserve the issuing agency, source identifier, and source URL whenever supplied. A government source—not our database—is authoritative if there is a discrepancy.

2. Record presentation

Agency fields are normalized into a common structure so visitors can search across sources. We may adjust formatting, spacing, field labels, and categorization for readability. We do not intentionally rewrite official hazard findings, classifications, remedies, or consumer instructions.

3. Missing information

Agencies do not always provide the same fields. When information is unavailable, we leave it blank, label it unavailable, or direct visitors to the source. We do not invent UPCs, model numbers, lots, classifications, health effects, remedies, or other recall facts.

4. Original guides and explanatory material

Find a Recall prepares original consumer guides, matching checklists, field explanations, and verification reminders. This material provides general education and is separated from official source fields. It is not medical, legal, engineering, or emergency advice.

5. Images

Product images are shown when an official source supplies a usable image URL. Captions and alternative text identify their purpose. Because one photograph may show only one variation, visitors are warned not to use an image alone to decide whether a product is affected.

6. Updates and outages

Sources are synchronized regularly when available, but updates are not guaranteed to be real-time. Agency maintenance, access restrictions, rate limits, network failures, or format changes can delay a source. A failed or empty synchronization does not intentionally erase valid stored records.

7. Corrections

To report a possible error, email support@findarecall.net and include:

• The Find a Recall page URL
• The field or statement believed to be incorrect
• The relevant official source URL
• A short explanation of the discrepancy

We compare the report with the current official source. When appropriate, we correct our stored or displayed information. If the source itself appears incorrect or outdated, we direct the matter to the issuing organization rather than altering the official meaning.

8. Independence and conflicts

Find a Recall is not affiliated with or operated by the FDA, USDA, CPSC, or a recalling company. Advertising relationships do not determine whether a recall is indexed, how an official record is displayed, or what our safety guides recommend.

9. Advertising separation

Advertising, if enabled, will be visually distinguishable from editorial and government-source content. Advertisers do not receive advance review or approval rights over recall records, corrections, guides, or methodology. We do not place advertising inside text in a way that makes it appear to be an official agency instruction.
