Shan Distribution Network, Inc. Recalls Ineligible Frozen Siluriformes Breaded Fish Fillet and Stick Products Imported from the United Arab Emirates

WASHINGTON, Aug. 7, 2026 – Shan Distribution Network, Inc., located in Carol Stream, Ill., is recalling approximately 5,084 pounds of frozen Siluriformes breaded Swai fish fillet and stick products because they were produced in the United Arab Emirates, a country that is not eligible to export Siluriformes fish to the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.  The frozen Siluriformes breaded Swai fish fillet and stick products were produced in December 2025, and have use before dates in June 2027. The following products are subject to recall [view labels]: 13.75-oz. boxes containing Al Kabeer spicy “Zing Fish Fillets Breaded Partially Cooked Swai Fish Fillets” 10.58-oz. boxes containing Al Kabeer “Fish Sticks Breaded Swai Fish” 330-g boxes containing Al Kabeer “Breaded Fish Fillets” The products do not bear an establishment number nor a USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.                                   The problem was discovered during routine FSIS inspection activities. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness or injury should contact a healthcare provider.   FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase.The Curry Chicken Salad item was produced on July 22, 2026. The following product subject to the public health alert is [view labels]:8-oz. plastic packages containing portions of "CURRY CHICKEN SALAD" with a USE BY: 07/30/2026 printed on the back label.The products bear establishment number "P-39928" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Oregon and Washington.The problem was discovered during routine establishment testing.There have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.Consumption of food contaminated with Lm can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections can occur in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers' refrigerators. The following product is subject to the public health alert [view labels]:3-lb 2-oz. carton containing 10 individually wrapped "RED'S STEAK CILANTRO AND LIME BURRITO" on the front package label with production lots, L1 SD6170 1503, L1 SD6170 1535, L1 SD6170 1606, L1 SD6170 1639, L1 SD6170 1717, L1 SD6170 1750, L1 SD6170 1831, L1 SD6170 1908, L1 SD6170 1954, L1 SD6170 2031, L1 SD6170 2108, L1 SD6170 2130 on the side of the package label.The individual products bear the establishment number "EST. 46069" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to Costco distribution locations in Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota.The problem was discovered by a consumer that identified the product contained in the carton of "RED'S STEAK CILANTRO AND LIME BURRITO" was a different product, which contains egg, and had been incorrectly labeled. The consumer reported the issue to the producing establishment, and the establishment notified FSIS.There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. FSIS Issues Public Health Alert for Beef Kofta Products Served at The Kebab Shop Restaurant Locations Due to Possible E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination

Editor's Note - June 1, 2026: Whole genome sequencing results show that the beef kofta samples collected by FSIS and produced at Olympia Food Industries (Est. 18743) matched the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7. FSIS continues to coordinate with the California Department of Public Health and local health departments in California on the outbreak investigation. WASHINGTON, May 24, 2026 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert due to concerns that beef kofta products served at The Kebab Shop restaurant locations may be contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) O157:H7. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase. The beef kofta was produced as a raw ground beef product by Olympia Food Industries, Inc. dba Olympia Foods (Est. 18743) in Franklin Park, Illinois, on January 6, 2026, and supplied to The Kebab Shop restaurant locations in California, Texas, and Florida. The problem was discovered as part of an ongoing illness outbreak investigation. FSIS, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and local health departments in California are investigating a localized outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 that includes 9 sick people in California. As of May 24, 2026, illness onset dates have been reported ranging from March 27, 2026, to April 30, 2026. Because the identified illnesses are limited to California, CDPH is leading this investigation with FSIS. FSIS continues to keep its federal partners informed as the investigation progresses. FSIS collected raw ground beef kofta product samples that tested positive for E. coli O157:H7. Further testing is ongoing to determine if the product samples are related to the specific outbreak strain. FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure that consumers in California, Texas, and Florida are aware of the outbreak. The Kebab Shop stopped selling beef kofta at all of its restaurant locations on May 18, 2026. E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps 2 to 8 days (3 to 4 days, on average) after exposure to the organism. While most people recover within a week, some develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). This condition can occur among persons of any age but is most common in children under 5 years old and older adults. It is marked by easy bruising, pallor, and decreased urine output. Consumers who ate beef kofta from any location of The Kebab Shop and develop symptoms of STEC infection within 10 days of exposure should contact their health care provider. Consumers should discard any leftover beef kofta from The Kebab Shop. As a general food safety practice, FSIS advises consumers to cook all ground beef products to an internal temperature of 160 degrees F, verified with a food thermometer.
